One of Apple’s laptop most striking feature, beside their full aluminium unibody, is the white Apple logo that lights up when the computer is on. Some users express concerns that this may reduce the battery life of their laptops. To be fair, other manufacturers of laptops have done something similar in the past. Off the top of my head, I remember at least two: Packard Bell and Sony. But Apple is the only manufacturer that has made this a distinctive feature of their laptop lineup.
How do you turn off the Apple logo?
Short answer, you can’t. And here’s why.
The light coming off the Apple logo on the back of your computer doesn’t come from an independent LED or neon. The light you see is the backlight that allows you to actually see what’s going on on your monitor.
If you need proof, here’s what the Apple logo looks like at 10, 50 and 100% intensity.
If you still want not to see the light coming off the back of your laptop’s display, you can use an opaque shell. I personally don’t use them because I find them ugly, but they may be a valid investment that will block the light coming from the back and can also protect your computer from damage.
